YEAR 8 King’s Ely Junior students descended at Bletchley Park on September 27th.
Ninety students and nine members of staff made their way to the home of Station X for a day of code breaking fun in the sun.
Head of Key Stage 3 Mathematics at King’s Ely Junior, Jonathan Hobbs, who led the trip, said: “In the allotted four hour window, our pupils crammed in a codes and cipher workshop where a genuine WWII Enigma machine was demonstrated to them.
“They heard the story of the codebreakers as they were guided around the site and finally the students explored some of the many huts and experiences of Bletchley Park as they set out to capture key information in a self-guided enriched task. Speaking to some of the pupils, they expressed how they wished they had additional time to see more and would seek to return in the near future.
“For many, the trip helped deepen their appreciation for Mathematics as they could see how important the subject was in this very real, and sometimes horrific, world as the codebreakers helped shorten the war and defeat the Nazi menace.”
