KING’S Ely won Silver in the annual Under 11 Girls’ Cricket Tournament at New Hall School.
The tournament took place on June 19th and with many of the Year 6 girls being away on a residential trip, King’s Ely’s team was mainly made up of Year 5 girls.
Head of Girls’ Sport at King’s Ely, Olivia Thorogood, said: “This did not hold the team back. A win in the first game against Bishop’s School made for a confident start. Catherine Raynes fielded superbly and got 2 run outs in this match contributing to a 24 run victory.
“A run of 2 tough matches followed, but a wicket from Zara Stevens put pressure on the opposition and Catalina Loubell also took a fantastic wicket, as well as hitting three 6’s!
“After the group stages, King’s Ely went into the Plate Competition. The semi-final against Brentwood School saw King’s on top throughout. Wickets from Emilia Watts, Catalina Loubell, Hattie Flynn and a catch from Mienke Putter gave King’s 6 wickets in the innings and led to a 22 runs victory and on they went to the Plate Final!
“Bishop’s Stortford were the opposition and it was a hard fought game. King’s again held onto their catches and showed much more intent with the batting. On this occasion it wasn’t meant to be and the team came away with a well deserved Silver medal!
“A long afternoon where the team represented their school admirably and should be proud of their achievements. Catalina Loubell was named player of the match in all 5 games and was undoubtedly our star player for the day!”
