KING’S Ely students Millie Oddi and Rebecca Daniel (left) secured a podium finish at the National Prep Schools Athletic Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham this week.

Both girls took home bronze medals after competing against the best prep school athletes from all over the country.

In difficult wet conditions, both Millie and Rebecca had to call on all of their ability and determination to earn their medals.

In the 800 metres, Rebecca found herself against girls equally as good as herself for the first time this term. At one stage she was 20 metres behind the leader, but she battled very hard up the final straight to finish a very close third in a time for of 2.36.8. As well as a personal best for her, this time also beat the existing Under 12s school record.

Millie, who has been fighting injury for most of the term, was lying fourth going into her final round but managed to produce her best jump of the day to finish third with a jump of 9m 63cm in the Triple Jump.

Head of Athletics, Richard Powell said: “Congratulations to both girls and to all King’s Junior athletes who have represented the school this term.”
