FLAUTIST Lucy Pearce (14) won all three of her categories during the first day of the 2013 Peterborough Music Festival yesterday (20).

The King’s Ely student won the Under 15 Junior Woodwind Cup with a Distinction mark for her performance of Bozza’s Aria. She then went on to win the Morris Trophy for Saint-Saëns’ Romance in the Under 18 class, receiving a second Distinction. Concluding her winning streak, she also won the open class with an outstanding mark for her Donizetti.

Lucy will now go on to compete for the title of Peterborough Young Musician of the Year which will be decided at the finals on Saturday (23) night.

Other King’s Ely students to gain Distinctions and Commendations in their categories were Ursule Taujanskaite (15), Minjoo Kim (15) and Jake Dods (13).

Flute tutor Liz Hargest said: “Lucy gave some wonderful performances with a beautiful tone and lovely shaped phrases, showing a clear understanding of the music.

“It is also pleasing that King’s has retained the two cups for the second year running as Ursule won both last year.”
