King’s Ely Junior pupil, Peony, is making a splash in one of her favourite new sports – competitive swimming!

Peony, who joined King’s as a baby in Nursery One, has been an avid swimmer for years, but she did not start competing in the sport until September 2022, as she was previously too young.

Since then, Peony, who is now in Year 4, has entered six swimming competitions and she has medalled at all of them! She also achieved county qualifying times in several events and took part in the County Championships, which were held over two weekends in January and February. She won Bronze in the girls aged 10-11 100m fly stroke, and Silver in the girls aged 10-11 200m back stroke.

Peony, who is a member of both the King’s Ely Swimming Team and Ely Swimming Club, then competed in the Cambridge Spring Open Meet last month (March). She came home with an impressive nine medals, eight of which were Gold!

During the Easter Weekend just gone, Peony burned off all her chocolate eggs and sweet treats by competing at her first ever ‘Top Level One’ long course meet, which was held in Norwich. She achieved five personal bests, a Silver medal in the 50m fly stroke, and Bronze medals
in both the 50m and 100m back stroke.

Congratulations Peony – what awesome results!
