KING’S Ely students Harry Webster and Michael Simmonds outperformed the competition at the Cambridgeshire Schools Athletics Championships on Saturday (14), both recording a first and a second place in their two events.

Harry came first in the 100 metres and second in the 200 metres, while Michael took home gold in the long jump and silver in the high jump.

Along with Freia Gould, who came second in the discus, both boys have been selected for the Cambridgeshire team for the East Anglian Championships on June 21.

Head of Athletics, Richard Powell, commented: “Both Harry and Michael returned highly impressive performances at this meeting. Considering that both boys have spent most of the term on the cricket field instead of the athletics track, their achievements were even more outstanding.”
