RUGBY hot shots Sam Hirons and Charley Burgess got to hold the Under 15s County Championship Cup this week after their team’s historic victory against Shelford.

The Huntingdon Stags retained their County Championship title on April 25, beating favourites Shelford 16-5 in what was a gritty and muddy championship final.

Both Sam Charley are in Year 10 at King’s Ely and play in the school’s rugby team.

The County Cup is being circulated across all schools with students who play for the Stags, thanks to the club’s coach, Damian Whales.

Head of Rugby at King’s Ely, Steve Johnson, who presented Sam and Charley with the trophy after school assembly this week, said: “Huntingdon’s win at the Under 15s County Championship Cup is a very significant achievement. Shelford is one of the largest team’s in the county, making the Stags the underdogs.

“Both Sam and Charley should be really proud of their performances, which no doubt contributed to the team’s strong victory.”
