THE highest achievers at King’s Ely Senior and International received a host of awards and prizes at the school’s annual Prizegiving ceremony at Ely Cathedral on Saturday (11).

The guest speaker, Sir James Paice, reflected on his political career during an inspiring address to hundreds of students, parents, governors and staff.

Sir Jim, who was appointed a governor at King’s Ely earlier in the year, encouraged the students to make the most of life’s opportunities and to ensure that ambition does not make them self-centred. He also addressed students who had not won prizes, reminding them that success could be measured in many different ways.

After the ceremony, Head Sue Freestone commented: “Prizegiving is always a great day in the school calendar; there is a real buzz about the place. It was especially good to welcome Sir Jim, who spoke from the heart with a directness that connected with every pupil and parent in the cathedral.”
