BBC newsreader and Crimewatch presenter, Matthew Amroliwala, was the guest of honour at the King’s Ely Junior Prizegiving service at Ely Cathedral on Thursday (3).

The Old Elean, who was a pupil at King’s Ely from 1976 until 81, was delighted to share in the celebrations of such remarkable achievements from all areas of the curriculum and beyond.

Speaking to the Junior pupils, their families and teachers before presenting the awards to the prize-winners, Matthew took the opportunity to encourage the young people to be determined, aim high and follow a path they enjoy while ensuring they develop into good human beings.

Head of King’s Ely Junior, Richard Whymark, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Matthew back to King’s Ely and his speech certainly fuelled the children’s aspirations for the future. Matthew’s encouragement to develop their natural talents and look for opportunities in life that allowed them to work for the benefit of others was inspirational. We are delighted that he could join us between his filming commitments.”
