Our Under 16 Girls and Boys Swimming Teams enjoyed a fantastic gala at Gresham’s School.

King’s swimmers were on fine form, and were pipped to the post by just one point on the day. The final score was 140 points for King’s and 141 points for Gresham’s.

King’s Swimming Coach, Polly Berraondo, said: “This fixture is always a close one and February 21st proved to be no exception! We were treated to a masterclass by Keira Mavin in the first race of the afternoon – the Under 16 Girls Individual Medley (IM), which she won by over half a length. Seb Thompson and Ollie Dickson, Years 9 and 10 respectively, swam well in the Under 16 Boys IM event, coming second and third.

“Lili-Rose Merrifield and Keira Mavin did not lose a single race and the Under 16 Girls Team, including Evie Bentley and Melanie Sheremet, stormed to victory in the 4x 50m Medley Relay. The boys events also saw some fantastic races and a very narrow victory in the relays for King’s swimmers.

“Travelling without our Year 13s meant that we sacrificed the Under 18 event to focus on Under 16s. Robert Banwell competed as an individual in Under 18 events and, as ever, pushed himself against some very tough competition. Well done also to some of our debut Year 10 swimmers, who were competing for the first time!

“It was a thrilling afternoon of racing, with tight finishes in many races and great relay racing for the finale. Well done to all swimmers – thank you for your enthusiasm and energy in swimming, and in support of your team members!”
