King’s Ely Boat Club had a fantastic time at the British Rowing Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR).

Seven of our Senior students were selected to represent the Eastern region in the national competition, which was held at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday, April 22nd.

Benedict Rose, Eve Williams, Quentin Mitchell, Matthew Chippington, Travis Bierton, Pippa Giles, and Mary Garrod competed. Pippa and Mary came 8th as a Year 11 Girls’ Double, and the boys, with Eve as cox, came 11th as a Year 10 Boys’ Quad.

Craig Ward, Head of Rowing at King’s, said: “It was a great day and a brilliant experience for our rowers.”

More than 90 rowing clubs competed in the event, representing 12 regions across England and Wales.
