The transition to higher education and graduate careers is, for almost all of our students, the vital next step after school. The Director of Higher Education and Graduate Careers, Gill Smith, has many years’ experience of guiding students successfully through the process to offers and places at the institutions that best suit them and she oversees the process assisted by the Head of Sixth Form Academic. Sixth Formers at King’s Ely have consistently gained a place at their first choice universities over many years, with a large number each year going to Russell Group universities. Your specialist tutor will guide you towards applying to universities and colleges that make the most of your distinctive abilities, including institutions in countries as diverse as the USA, New Zealand, China and Member States of the EU. Parents and guardians are involved through an annual conference, at which speakers from universities in the UK (including Cambridge) as well as overseas (e.g. Harvard) help students to think systematically about what could lie ahead. We encourage parents, guardians and agents to work in partnership with us at this critical stage.

In the Summer Term of Year 12, you will participate in workshops focusing on choosing a course wisely and writing an effective personal statement. If you are applying for Oxbridge and Medicine, you can attend interview preparation courses in London. The Head of Careers and Personal Development will help you to find work experience related to your intended degree course.

Some students each year choose to postpone their university application until after they receive their A Level results. The Sixth Form team supports and advises these students, even after they have left the school.
