Music at King’s Ely is vibrant, engaging and inclusive. Each pupil is guided by a team of specialist teachers to find their own musical journey through an imaginative and stimulating curriculum, with the option of learning an instrument and by participating in an all-encompassing range of extra-curricular musical activities.

Situated in the heart of King’s Ely Senior, the academic life of the Gibson Music School gives our students the opportunity to examine the impact that music has had across the years, whether it be a comparison of ballroom and clubdance, the persuasive qualities of advertising, or the raw emotion expressed through music written in response to a World War. During Years 9 to 13, the vital elements of Music are explored through the creative spheres of listening and appraising, composing and performing.

Academic and extra-curricular opportunities unify Music to the core. Consequently, there are opportunities to perform in many diverse vocal and instrumental ensembles at a variety of levels and every King’s Ely Senior pupil competes in the eagerly contested House Song Competition. King’s Ely musicians also have the opportunity to tour regularly.

Recent results have been excellent, with GCSE at 100% A*-B and AS Level 100% at A grade.

After King’s Ely, many of our musicians reach very high levels and several have gone on to secure places at Conservatoires in Birmingham, London (Guildhall, RCM & RAM) and Manchester (RNCM), along with Choral or Organ Scholarships  at Oxbridge, with many becoming music professionals.
