We are delighted to report that four King’s Ely Prep pupils are ‘global winners’ in this year’s Poésíæ competition!

Carmen, Willow, Freddie and Beatrice have all achieved winners’ certificates in the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) contest, which is entered by pupils from across the world.

Mrs Lorraine Oldham, Key Stage 2 MFL Coordinator at King’s Ely Prep, encourages our young linguists to take part in the competition every year. This year, pupils in Years 4-8 entered by either reciting a poem in Italian, French, German, Spanish or Welsh, or illustrating their interpretation of a poem in these languages.

Carmen and Willow were victorious in the Spanish category, Freddie was a winner in the French category, and Beatrice was triumphant in the Italian category.

Poésíæ started out as an annual French poem recitation competition in a little school. During the pandemic, organisers thought it would be a good idea to expand the competition to a few more schools to spread the love of foreign languages, to help develop oracy skills, and to boost children’s self-confidence. Since then, it has grown massively, with more than 200 schools from all over the world now involved.

Congratulations to our fabulous foursome, and well done to all pupils who entered!
