A KIND-HEARTED King’s Ely pupil has raised more than £2,000 for charity by completing a gruelling swimming challenge.
Six-year-old Lynden Long, who is a pupil at King’s Ely Acremont, decided to take on this year’s 2.5km Swimathon. The challenge saw Lynden swimming the equivalent of 100 lengths at Paradise Pools in Ely on Sunday, April 9th.
Charity-minded Lynden completed the Swimathon in 1 hour and 18 minutes – much to the delight of his family and friends who were there supporting him. The Swimathon supports a different charity each year and over the last 30 years it has raised more than £46 million for good causes.
This year, the Swimathon is raising much-needed funds for Marie Curie – a UK based charity which provides care and support to people with terminal illnesses, as well as their families. Lynden has raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship so far.
Lynden’s mum, Anastasia, said: “We are all so proud of Lynden. Not only did he choose to take on the Swimathon but he also successfully completed it! The support and encouragement from everyone has been amazing, for which we are very grateful indeed.”
Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, added her praise and congratulations, commenting: “Lynden is a remarkable boy and it is characteristic of him that he should have perceived a need, seen a way of helping and just got on with doing what he felt was right. We share his parents’ pride in what he has achieved.”
