Congratulations to King’s Ely Junior pupil and skilful Karter, Joseph Smith, who was on fantastic form at the 2023 IAME Euro Series Round 2 in Belgium!

Joseph, who is in Year 8, placed ninth in the competition, which is his best karting achievement to date.

Joseph, who lives with his family in Soham, first started corporate karting when he was nine years old, through the Young Starz programme at Red Lodge Karting. Joseph won the cadet championships at Red Lodge in 2021, which was the same year that he joined a team and got his own kart.

This year, due to his age, Joseph is in a bigger kart – an Iame X30 Junior. His team is Mick Barrett Racing, who his parents say have been invaluable in kick-starting and supporting Joseph’s karting over the years.

Joseph’s mum, Clara, added: “Joseph also could not compete to the extent that he does without the brilliant support from Mr Whymark and everyone at King’s Ely Junior.”

Joseph, whose main sponsor is Greenheath Ltd, has a busy few months coming up, including further rounds in the Euroseries in Italy in July, a return to Belgium in August, and the World Finals in Portugal in October.

This weekend, Joseph is at PF International Kart Circuit, in Lincolnshire, for the first round of the British Karting Championships.

Keep up the fantastic work, Joseph!
