Children arrived at King’s Ely Acremont Nursery and Pre-Prep this morning (February 28th) to discover a humongous egg with scales and talons in the back garden!

What followed was a day filled with adventure, imagination, and exploration in the great outdoors, as our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes followed lots of hidden clues, to try and determine who, what, when, where, and why this mysterious egg was on their turf.

Clues buried in bizarrely purple and glittery piles of ‘dung’ around the garden led the children to believe that a mysterious book-devouring creature had arrived through a magical portal!

Harriet Gervasio, Deputy Head at King’s Ely Acremont, said: “Each class worked together to think about what type of creature they thought it was, before writing a spell to send the creature safely back to its home again. At the end of the day, the children cast their spells with their magic wands, and found a letter from the creature explaining that it had indeed come from another world… The world of our imagination. The children discovered that every single one of their ideas was correct because, through the power of reading, we can bring them to life!”

The magical day was organised as part of our ‘Festival of Reading Week’, which is involving pupils from Nursery right the way through to Sixth Form, and is centred around World Book Day on Thursday, March 2nd!
