“We have shared a fun and warmer return to the second half of this term. The hallway echoed to the sounds of ‘welcome’ on Monday morning as we were all so pleased to see each other again and catch up with news from the holidays. Refreshed and energised from our week away, we have bounced back into the learning, enrichment, sport, and playtimes!

“Come Tuesday, car gate conversation was overrun with questions about pancakes… Will we?… Could we?… Yes, of course, we can! Thank you to Mrs Harnwell and the Kitchen Team for pre-empting our wishes and making them come true at lunchtime! On Wednesday, Ms Gervasio and I joined our Year 2 parents at King’s Ely Junior (KEJ) to launch the programme of transition events, as our Year 2 families turn their heads towards moving to Year 3 in September. Mr Whymark and his team detailed life at KEJ and it was reassuring to hear how well supported the children will be and what wonderful facilities and opportunities await them. Mr Whymark joined me today to ‘co-host’ our Celebration Assembly, which was a super experience for him to congratulate our Acremont children and shake hands with our cup-winners.

“On Thursday, we found Year 1 enriching their ‘space’ knowledge with a visit from the Astronomy Department at the University of Cambridge. Year 1 were little ‘hoovers’ of facts and their thirst for knowledge of the planets and the universe met with much praise from our visitor. Today we move round to our next enrichment topic choice and begin the series of practical and debate sessions both inside and out, which will take us down to the Easter holidays. Throughout the week, children have been choosing books from our ‘pop up’ bookshop, in preparation for the main event of the term, our Festival of Reading Week, which we look forward to next week. Conversation in the hallways and at lunch is already about our ‘dress-up’ day next Thursday.

“No sooner will we be closing the pages on our Book Week, when the chicks will arrive! One of the most memorable parts of last year, according to the children, was the hatching of eggs to chicks and the marvel of up-close observation and taking care of these fragile, noisy, and hilarious creatures! And so, we will again, commence chick-watch on Monday 6th March, so please look out for the updates.

“With my very best wishes for a happy and relaxing weekend.”
