YEAR 10-13 King’s Ely rowers competed in the Star Head in Bedford on January 13th.

Despite very windy and choppy conditions, there were some very pleasing and promising results.

Alex Millard rowed superbly in the J18 single to win the category, closely followed by William White.

The girls’ senior quad – Lucy Whiteside, Rahera Greatrex, Holly Lancaster and Rebecca Garrett – also picked up a category win and fastest women’s quad of the day.

The Year 10 girls continued their development in coxless boats and were expertly steered down the course by Otilia and Indra Salgado.

The Year 10 boys’ quad – Richard Garrard, William Buckingham, Conall Comley, Henry Bullivant and Sam Martin – also came a close 2nd by just 4 seconds in the J16 quads, which provided a step up in age group and standard.

The river conditions grew worse throughout the day and in the afternoon saw 3 doubles race. Holly Burke partnered up with an athlete from Star Club and came a close second out of 8 crews.

Year 10 students Hector Macdonald and Ed Moss rowed well, taking 8th place and Isabella Boutwood, who raced in the earlier quad, partnered Charlotte Ellis to produce a 5th place.

Well done all!
