KING’S Ely’s annual fundraising concert has raised a record-breaking £1,626 for two important charities.

The money raised from the concert, which featured over 60 talented musicians from a number of the school’s ensembles, has been divided equally between children’s charity UNICEF and the Ely Community Service Committee (ECSC), which runs the Old Dispensary community centre in Ely.

ECSC will use the donation to continue providing local societies, community groups and other services which greatly benefit the local community with affordable accommodation for meetings and events, with rates of just £17 for three hours.

John Smith from ECSC visited the school on Thursday (14) to collect the charity’s cheque from Director of Music, Jonathan Kingston. He said: “The charity is once again extremely grateful to King’s Ely for its donation to our funds. Over the years such donations have made a valuable contribution to our local community in supporting the Old Dispensary.”

The money raised will help UNICEF to improve the lives of children all over the world facing violence, disease, hunger and the chaos of war and disaster.

Jonathan Kingston commented: “This annual event is one of the most anticipated in our musical year. Our orchestras, bands and choral groups are always thrilled to perform to such a large and appreciative audience, at the same time recognising that the many hours of preparation, rehearsal and performance come together to raise funds for such good causes.”
