Our Year 4 King’s Ely Junior pupils have been making a heck of a racket in their Science lessons, but only because they have been investigating sound!

The children got creative by using drinking straws to make ‘panpipes’, which they then used to explore how changing the length of the straws alters the pitch. They were able to take their instruments home with them – sorry parents/carers!

Pupils also made the most of the winter sunshine by going outside into the Years 3 and 4 Courtyard to use string telephones to examine how sound vibrations travel.

At King’s Ely Junior, our creative approach to teaching and learning ensures that the Key Stage 2 Curriculum is covered through different styles, giving all children the chance to learn in ways which suit them best; whether this is by seeing, by hearing, or by doing. By talking about and sharing their ideas, our pupils come to understand the power of collaboration, whilst developing the confidence to ‘have a go’. Every child is encouraged to learn in a way that is meaningful to them!
