THE King’s Ely Equestrian Team finished in first place in the 90cms class at the Norton Heath event before the Easter break, securing their position at the Championships at Addington Manor in October.

Freia Gould, Phoebe Plumb and Katie Cameron joined 95 other riders, forming 18 teams at the event, where riders are required to jump a number of show jumps and then go straight to cross country jumps, all held in an arena. Riders are also marked on their style of riding and partnership with their mount.

Trainer of the King’s Ely Equestrian Team, Susan Cameron, commented: “The course changed dramatically in terms of technicality and not just height, which proved particularly challenging.  Team tactics were called into play in order to qualify for the championships. It was agreed that the speed of the course was more influential than any jumps that were knocked down, so the team was instructed – with parental consent – to really go for it! Their efforts certainly paid off and the team looks forward to returning to the Championships in October.”

Phoebe Plumb also gained a 4th individual placing and Freia Gould came 8th.
