STEVE Barclay MP, the representative MP for North East Cambridgeshire, paid a visit to King’s Ely this term to talk to A Level Government and Politics students about parliamentary scrutiny, policy making and his personal experiences as a Member of Parliament.

The class leaped at the opportunity to put the MP in the hot seat, asking questions that included the role of women in politics and the effectiveness of scrutiny of government.

Student Andrew Bosworth-Daft said: “Mr Barclay answered all of our questions with exceptional detail and professionalism – a talent which shows why he was successful as a politician! It was a very interesting experience as we had never previously met an MP in a close, friendly environment, and we all learned exceptional amounts from him that will surely help us in our exams later this year.”

Teacher Sharon Jackson added: “It is really useful to invite an MP into the classroom as it gives the students an opportunity to learn directly from someone who has experience as a Member of Parliament.

“Steve has visited the school before – even starring in a politics video – and we are most grateful for his continued support.”
