We are thrilled to announce that eight King’s Ely students have been shortlisted in two prestigious photography competitions!
Jessica Harding (Year 13) is in the running to win this year’s ILFORD PHOTO Student Competition.
Ella Martin (Year 11), Elliott Hilsden (Year 11), Sam Clarke (Year 10), Willis Xu (Year 11), Euan Henry (Year 13), Lia Kunis (Year 13), and Thomas Bateman (Year 13), have all been shortlisted in the 2023 ‘Beyond the Frame’ Photography Competition, which is organised by Norwich University of the Arts (NUA).
‘Beyond the Frame’ is open to students aged 11 to 19 from across the globe, who are in full-time secondary or further education. This year’s theme is ‘People, Places and Things’, and the competition is being judged by NUA’s BA (Hons) Photography course leader, James Smith, and acclaimed photographers, Cat Gundry-Beck and Clive Booth. Each age category winner will receive a new Canon EOS M50 Mark II camera.
Winners will be announced at an awards event at NUA on March 30th. Shortlisted entries will also be displayed in an awards exhibition at the university from March 30th to April 1st. The theme of this year’s ILFORD PHOTO Student Competition is ‘A Different View’ and Jessica submitted three entries. Again, hundreds of Photography students have entered the international competition, submitting images of conventional ILFORD or KENTMERE black and white film, which have been printed in a darkroom or on traditional black and white photographic papers.
The winner will receive a certificate, have their image professionally printed and framed, and get £200 to spend on photography products of their choice.
Antonio Longo, Head of Photography at King’s, said: “To be shortlisted in these competitions is very exciting news indeed. The students’ hard work and creativity is being celebrated through this selection process, and we look forward to hearing how things may progress over the coming weeks.”
Congratulations team – what a fantastic achievement!
