Popular children’s book, ‘Our Tower’, was the theme of our Pre-Prep to Prep transition event on Saturday, February 25th.

Our current Year 2 children spent the morning with three members of King’s Ely Junior’s Year 3 Teaching Team – Mrs Staward, Mrs Cullum, and Ms Gee – as part of our Year 2 to Year 3 Transition Programme.

‘Our Tower’ is written by Joseph Coelho and illustrated by Richard Johnson. The children each worked with Mrs Cullum, Mrs Staward and Ms Gee to create their own ‘tree grown person’ made from biodegradable materials.

They also designed doors to their ‘magical lands’, similar to the secret door in the book. The children’s imagination and creativity ran wild, which was wonderful to see. Of course there was time for cookies, juice and fun in the Years 3 and 4 Courtyard too!

Earlier this month, Mr Everest, who is our Head of Key Stage 2, popped over to Acremont Pre-Prep to meet our Year 2 classes, and to read the much-loved Jarvis novel, ‘Alan’s Big, Scary Teeth’, to them. Our Year 2 to Year 3 Transition Programme also includes swimming sessions at King’s Ely Junior, lunch in the Monastic Barn, more Year 3 Teacher familiarisation activities, and our whole school ‘Move-up Morning’ in the Summer Term. Close communication between our Year 2 and Year 3 Teaching Teams ensures that this important transition is a very positive experience.
