A KIND-HEARTED King’s Ely Junior pupil has raised much-needed funds for a children’s hospice by completing a 10km walk.

Jack Cheale, 8, was among around 1,000 people who took part in the annual Sunrise Walk in London on June 4th. The walk is organised to raise funds for the Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice, which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.

The walk started from Richmond Park at 4.30am and Jack, who lives with his family near Huntingdon, participated with a small group of other walkers called Max’s Minions. They were walking in memory of a little boy called Max who passed away in May last year. Max was born with a rare brain tumour and both he and his family were fully supported medically and emotionally by the hospice before he died.

Max’s Minions have raised more than £1,400 so far by completing the walk and the hospice hopes to raise at least £60,000 from all participants’ sponsorship money.

Head of King’s Ely Junior, Richard Whymark, said: “It is always wonderful to see one of our young students demonstrating their compassion for others and I congratulate Jack on his achievement and commitment to this cause.”
