Our inaugural Model United Nations (MUN) conference was a great success!

We were delighted to welcome Sixth Form students from Thomas Gainsborough School in Suffolk to join a team of our Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils to debate whether or not Taiwan should be recognised as an independent state.

The event was organised by Melanie Franklin, our Head of ESOL, and the Board Room made the perfect setting. Students represented a diverse range of countries with eloquence, and portrayed a thorough understanding of a very complex political issue.

‘Best Researcher’ medals went to King’s Ely students, Will Shaw and Matthew Jackson.

‘Best Speaker’ was awarded to King’s Ely student, Leo Good.

‘Best Debater’ medals went to Thomas Gainsborough students, Eleanor Darley and Ellen Dreau.

‘Best Team’ was awarded to Thomas Gainsborough pupils, Oliver Heritage, Chloe Forth and Viktoriia Karpova.

Thomas Gainsborough students, Amy Esterhuyse and Madalene Howard, did an excellent job of chairing the conference and being assertive in their use of the gavel.

Mrs Franklin said: “The conference had such a great energy and buzz. There were some politicians in the making, that is for sure!”
