A SIX year old is preparing to make a splash to help support people who are battling terminal illnesses.
Lynden Long, who is a pupil at King’s Ely Acremont, has decided to take on this year’s 2.5km Marie Curie Swimathon. The gruelling challenge will see Lynden attempting to swim the equivalent of 100 lengths at Paradise Pools in Ely on April 9th.
The Swimathon challenge raises much-needed funds for Marie Curie each year and charity-minded Lynden has already raised more than £1,300 in sponsorship. Marie Curie is a UK based charity which provides care and support to people with terminal illnesses, as well as their families.
Lynden’s mum, Anastasia, said: “Earlier this month, Lynden picked up a leaflet at the reception area of Paradise Pools and instantly decided he wanted to do the Swimathon. We are really proud of his decision and effort, and we have been overwhelmed with all the kind words of encouragement and sponsorship.”
As part of his training, Lynden swims once a week at his local pool, where he ‘just enjoys the fun of swimming’ and is looking forward to conquering 100 lengths unaided.
Head of King’s Ely Acremont, Jonathan Willcocks, commented: “We are all very proud of Lynden for selecting this challenge and we will certainly be willing him on to succeed!”
