Some photos from ‘Summer Celebration’ at King’s Ely Prep!

Hundreds of our Years 3-8 pupils and their families flocked to the event, which took place on Saturday (June 29th), and is organised annually in the Summer Term to mark the culmination of the academic year.

Our prayers for sunshine were answered, and Prep was buzzing as the children excitedly showed their families around their classrooms, and talked through some of the learning topics and projects that they have been working on this year. The celebration was also a super opportunity for parents and carers to chat with their children’s soon-to-be new teachers and teaching assistants come September. Many of the children’s siblings joined in on the fun too, including some who will be starting at Prep next academic year, and many who are in Pre-Prep, Prep, or Senior.

Music played a significant role in the occasion, with our vast range of school bands and ensembles performing. From Flute Choir to String Octet and the Cathedral Choristers to Jazz Band, toes were most certainly tapping.

‘Summer Celebration’ can often be a mixture of emotions for some families, especially if their children are leaving Prep to move up to Senior School. This year, it was Mr and Mrs Richard and Joanna Whymark who experienced every emotion under the sun, as it was their last ever ‘Prep Summer Celebration’, after 15 years at the helm. Their faces were a picture when a group of staff burst into song and surprised them in the playground with a fun rendition of ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’ – more on that to come soon!

‘Summer Celebration’ was also held at our Nursery and Pre-Prep on the same day. We posted these photos on our socials on Monday. If you missed them, please visit: Gallery: Summer Celebration at King’s Ely Acremont Nursery and Pre-Prep! – King’s Ely (
