The finalists in our 2023 Instrumental Music Festival have been announced and they are eager to perform to you at Ely Cathedral on Thursday (February 9th) evening!

Musicians in Years 9-13 have been battling it out in a series of heats since the start of term and, as ever, the level of skill, flair and commitment showcased by our students has been phenomenal. Every instrumentalist who has taken part should be as proud of themselves as we are.

The following pupils will be competing for the ‘Intermediate Instrumentalist of the Year’ (Walser Cup): James Barber (Alto Saxophone), Thomas Strudwick (Organ), Anna Ost (Cello), Maxime Prince (Drum Kit), Polly Casey (French Horn), Thomas Strudwick (Piano).

The following pupils will be competing for the ‘Senior Instrumentalist of the Year’ (Walser Trophy): Thomas Bateman (Trombone), Samuel Trueman (Organ), Lily McCallum (Cello), Ben Kittoe (Jazz Guitar), Lauren Booth (Flute), Samuel Trueman (Piano), James Schoenberg (Guitar).

Our Saxophone Quartet (James Barber, Jessica Harding, Emily Williams and Lauren Peck) and Piano Trio (Lily McCallum, Lauren Booth and Samuel Trueman) will also be performing.

This year, we have a House Cup up for grabs too, which is for the most points accumulated by entries into the festival.

We are delighted to be welcoming James Randle, Director of Music at King’s College School, Cambridge, as our Adjudicator for the evening.

The concert starts at 7pm prompt and will end at around 9pm. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. Please remember to wrap up warm though!
