Our Sport Scholars and pupils who have a passion for Sport got to soak up tips and advice from Crista Cullen MBE.

Junior and Senior students were able to join a webinar with Crista, who is an accomplished Hockey player, Triple Olympian, and Gold and Bronze Medallist.

Having grown up in Kenya, Crista spent her teenage years at a boarding school in the UK, where she found a sense of belonging through Sport. Over the next decade she progressed through the ranks of Elite Hockey – from the lows of failing to qualify for the Athens 2004 Olympics, to the highs of Olympic Gold in Rio 2016. Throughout her athletic career, Crista maintained her role in the corporate world – creating a sense of balance and perspective that was central to her sporting performance.

Alex Meddle, Director of Sport at King’s Ely Senior, said: “Crista explained how important it is to have the right attitude to Sport and she shared some of the ways that she got to the top of her profession. It was fascinating to learn that Crista never had the level of skills of other girls her age, but that it was her attitude and determination that enabled her to make it to elite level.

“Crista has now retired from Hockey and works as a Conservationist in Kenya, where she has founded her own charity. Crista shared so much knowledge and advice with us all, which was fantastic. This was the first of many Sport Seminars with professional athletes that we have coming up in school.”

Thank you so much for your time, Crista!
