KING’s Ely’s Christopher Le won a gold medal at the Tae Kwon Do English Championships at Worcester Arena yesterday (16), making him a national champion in the martial art.
After an impressive demonstration in the patterns session, Christopher, who has been practising Tae Kwon Do for almost 12 years, beat 24 other boys to take the first place position. In the sparring session, which is an open event, the 16-year old had to fight against Second Dan Black Belt opponents over the age of 18 from all over the country.
Following some exciting and exhausting rounds, Christopher also won a bronze medal in the Cadet Light-Heavy Weight division.
This national event was organised by the Tae Kwon Association of Great Britain, Europe’s largest single martial arts organisation, with over 20,000 members training in over 600 clubs throughout the UK.
Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, commented: “It is always a joy to have a national champion in the school. We have been privileged to see Chris develop in his mastery of the martial arts for the past 12 years and we are very proud of him.”
