CHILDREN from King’s Ely Acremont proved that we are never too young to learn about recycling following their trip to the Amey Cespa Waste Disposal plant at Waterbeach this week.

The Year 1 class donned hard hats, hi vis jackets and earpieces for the tour, where staff at the plant showed them around all the three areas of the site – recycling, composting and landfill. After their first lesson on the benefits of effective waste management, the children also got the chance to climb up an old landfill site to see the one currently in use, prompting the adults to ensure that all hands were firmly scrubbed before the packed lunches were distributed!

Head of Acremont, Dr Lynda Brereton, said: “We all had the most exciting day. The children – and staff – learnt a great deal and were fascinated by the processes involved.”
