YOUNG athletes from King’s Ely Junior and Senior competed in the Cambridgeshire Club Cross Country Championships in January.

Pride of place goes to the U11 girls’ and U11 boys’ teams, both finishing third overall. Year 7’s Rebecca Daniel was the best individual performer from King’s Ely, finishing fourth in her race. Tommy Hutchinson and Toby Whittome, both aged 10, fought out a tremendous finish in their race and Tommy’s brother, Oliver (Year 8), finished 17th and showed how quickly he is improving as a runner.

Head of Athletics Richard Powell said: “Many of the cross country runners from King’s Ely were competing against older children but

all put in maximum effort and are to be congratulated for their performances.

“This is a good standard competition with most of the competitors belonging to specialist running clubs. It was therefore both pleasing and informative to see how our runners got on.”

He added: “Thanks to all pupils who took part and to all parents for bringing

them along.”
