REBECCA Daniel (12) won another gold medal in the 800 metres at the National Prep Schools’ Athletics Championships in Birmingham yesterday (2).
Rebecca’s latest win was on the very same track where Mo Farah and other Olympians from all over the world were competing just 48 hours earlier at Sunday’s star-studded Birmingham Grand Prix.
Cold temperatures and a strong headwind made running conditions difficult, but Rebecca took the lead on the bell and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the final lap, securing a time of 2:24:51 – a good two seconds ahead of the second place time.
Head of Athletics at King’s Ely Junior, Richard Powell, said: “’Rebecca is a very talented all-round athlete and is currently number one in the country for her age group. How far she goes in athletics is dependent upon many things, but she certainly has the potential, ability and determination necessary to perform at international level one day.”
