“It has been wonderful to wake up the House and Nursery again after our Christmas break with the sound of chatty and excited children. With lots of questions and sharing of experiences, the children have eased successfully back into our routines this week.

“The lure of new topics is an irresistible one and we have already welcomed visitors into school to launch the Reception’s ‘Exploring Biomes’ scheme of learning for this term. Year One are exploring the wealth of learning in their ‘One Step Beyond’ topic about space, and Year Two are already deep into the alterative storytelling of some well-known traditional tales from around the world. Nursery have taken initial steps this week into a wide-range of new mini themes. The classic combination of Pirates and Dinosaurs have seen role play, scientific investigations, and creations taking place in Nursery Two learning this week, whilst Nursery One have been exploring the Nursery Library, selecting books to read and using their own library cards.

“It seems some time ago now that our week began at the Cathedral. We took part in the Whole School Service on Monday and it really set us up for the term. The children listened attentively to Mr Attwater’s thoughtful words on the relevance of action, and whilst you may have a faith, also act on it with thoughtfulness and kindness. We will endeavour to keep this worthy belief close to our hearts this term. This sentiment ties in well with our theme for the Mid-Term Service on February 10th, which King’s Ely Acremont will be leading. Parents are welcome to join us at this Service, details of which will be shared nearer to the event. Close to the approaching St. Valentine’s Day, we will be thinking not just broadly of ‘love’, but how, in many different ways, we can love our neighbour.

“Today, it was a pleasure to talk with Reception parents during our ‘At Home’ coffee morning and this series of gatherings continues next Friday, January 20th, when Year One parents are invited to meet in the Music Room as an opportunity to catch up together at the start of the new term.

“We also enjoyed our termly voting sessions this morning to elect our new School Councillors. They were very pleased to receive their badges in our Celebration Assembly this afternoon. As this is one of our shorter terms, Mrs Walker will be meeting with our new Councillors next Tuesday to get cracking on creating a plan of action for the Lent Term and I look forward to hearing their ideas and initiatives, and sharing these with you in the coming weeks.

“With my best wishes for a happy and relaxing weekend.”
