Our Ely Cathedral Girl Choristers and Sixth Form Choral Scholars spent the first five days of half term delighting audiences in and soaking up the sights of Umbria and Tuscany!

These fabulous photos were taken mainly by Sarah MacDonald, Director of Ely Cathedral Girls’ Choir (ECGC), and who accompanied our super-talented musicians with Matron Helen, Matron Mel, Mrs Gorick, Mr Wilson, and Canon Reveley.

Ms MacDonald said: “This tour, long delayed from April 2020, was the first time that ECGC has been abroad since 2012. We sang concerts in Arezzo and Orvieto, and services in Orvieto and Assisi. We stayed in the most amazing monastery in Orvieto – Monastero San Lodovico – which overlooked the surrounding countryside from the top of the mountain town.

“We performed music by Mendelssohn, Robert Lee, Simon Lole, Peter Nardone, and myself. Matron Helen, Matron Mel, and Mrs Gorick were fabulous pastoral staff, and we were thrilled to have Canon Reveley from the Cathedral with us, as well as Mr Wilson. We had wonderful food (lots of pasta and pizza!), excellent company, and we cannot wait to go back. The singing was pretty awesome too – the acoustics were incredible!”

As Ms MacDonald has said, this is the first overseas tour that ECGC has been on since 2012. They were supposed to travel to Amsterdam in 2020 but that trip did not go ahead due to the pandemic.

What an amazing opportunity and experience for everyone involved – thank you to each and every one of you who made it happen!
