A student at King’s Ely Senior has represented Cambridgeshire at the English Schools Athletics Championship at Gateshead earlier this month.

Rebecca Daniel (15) competed in the Intermediate Girls 800m event and was near her best at Gateshead in an event that contained some of the quickest 800m Intermediate Girls that have ever competed at this event.

Rebecca, a year young for the competition, ran inside the qualifying time on four occasions in the lead up to the event. Her best performance so far this year was in the British Miles Club Grand Prix at Watford in May, where she ran a time of 2:15.02.

Head of Athletics at King’s Ely, Jim Thompson, commented: “Congratulations to Rebecca on her second consecutive selection to represent Cambridgeshire and competing so admirably in a high quality field at Gateshead.”

The English Schools Athletic Championships is the 4th largest Athletics Championships in the world and provides young athletes with ideal preparation for future World Athletic events.
