SIXTH Form students at King’s Ely raised an impressive £4,000 at their annual charity dinner to help support a member of staff at the school in his bid to run the London Marathon on Sunday (13).

Andrew Wallis will be running the marathon to raise money for Asthma UK, a charity that funds research into better treatments and ultimately a cure for the debilitating condition, one that remains close to his heart

“I chose to run for Asthma UK to support a colleague in his fundraisings effort for the charity, which he supports after the loss of his nephew due to the condition,” said Andrew.

As well as training intensively since January, Andrew has recently completed a half marathon and a 20-mile race to help prepare for Sunday’s gruelling 26-mile run.

“I do enjoy running but the London Marathon is a tough event, so to know that I am raising money for a worthwhile charity and that the King’s Ely community is supporting me will help me keep going.”
